Medication- Assisted Treatment (MAT) in Waukesha and Milwaukee, Wisconsin

WisHope Recovery Center’s premier Medication-Assisted Treatment (MAT) Program is based in Waukesha and Milwaukee and serves all of Wisconsin. Our program is fully aligned with SAMHSA’s (Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration) National Registry of Evidence-based Treatment Programs and Practices.  Medication-Assisted Treatment or MAT is the current government-recommended standard in opioid dependence treatment and combines medication with counseling and other types of behavioral therapies.  MAT is primarily used for the treatment of addiction to opioids such as heroin and prescription pain relievers that contain opiates.

It allows for our passionate and qualified staff to meet each person where they are at while tending to their physical and psychological needs and allows them to engage physically, emotionally, and mentally.

FDA Approved Medications for Opioid Addiction

Medication-Assisted Treatment (MAT) is the safest, most effective approach to opioid addiction. With over 130 opioid-related deaths daily and millions misusing prescriptions, access to affordable MAT is more critical than ever.

FDA-approved medications include Suboxone, Methadone, and Vivitrol.

These medications help ease the symptoms associated with withdrawal and curb drug cravings. They include:

Methadone

Methadone reduces cravings without making patients sleepy; it is taken once daily in liquid form, allowing patients to feel stable and function normally. Methadone also helps prevent the high from other opiates and eases the symptoms of opioid withdrawal.

Suboxone (also known as Buprenorphine)

Suboxone combines buprenorphine and naloxone to ease opioid withdrawal and reduce cravings. Unlike methadone, it partially binds to opioid receptors and blocks the effects of opioids if used, helping prevent relapse.

Vivitrol

This once-a-month injection reduces opioid cravings, blocks withdrawal symptoms, and helps prevent overdose. Patients must be opioid-free for 14 days before starting.
