Support for Meth Addiction and Co-Occurring Mental Health Disorders

At WRC, we view ‘family’ in terms of strongly supportive, long-term roles and relationships between people who may or may not be related by blood or marriage. By including family in the addiction treatment process, individuals can discover a new perception of themselves and their loved ones.

At WRC, we believe this vital process is too often overlooked. We also believe strongly, conceptually, and practically that addressing the entire “modern family” system helps secure a clearer vision of the roles the disease and co-occurring disorders have played within the family unit. Thus allowing healing to begin and new paths to be paved. We have a family therapy program to help loved ones restore their connections, hope and recommit to the health and functionality of their relationships.

What is Methamphetamine (Meth or Crystal Meth) and its Effects?

Methamphetamine (crystal meth or meth) is a synthetic drug that speeds up the inner working of the brain and affects the central nervous system. Meth can be used a variety of ways, including swallowed via pill form, snorted, smoked, and injected intravenously. It is typically odorless and ranges in color, depending on what it is mixed with.  Initially, meth users tend to feel a long-lasting rush or euphoria. As methamphetamine floods the brain with dopamine, the illusion of being more powerful than usual typically follows. After this, users will experience an extreme high.  The effects of the drug can last anywhere from six to 12 hours and users can stay awake for as long as ten days with very little food or drink.

Tweaking will commonly occur once the effects of the drug have worn off and the user begins to experience hallucinations, which can include believing bugs are crawling beneath their skin. This can lead to scraping or digging at the skin surface. Users may also experience an extreme crash causing them to sleep for days on end. When meth wears off, dopamine and serotonin are both depleted, resulting in anxiety and depression. This leads to a vicious cycle where users must keep using the drug in order to relieve these negative feelings and feel somewhat normalized. The drug has lifelong and devastating effects on those who become addicted to it, and, unfortunately, it has become one the most addictive substances available today.

Our Methamphetamine Addiction Treatment Program - What to Expect

WRC’s Methamphetamine addiction treatment approach is customized for each individual. We take into account a person’s prior history of methamphetamine misuse, supportive systems, recourse access, and personal commitment to living a life in long-term recovery. Participants can undergo a pre-screen to identify the severity of their addiction and mental health issues to see which type of treatment will work best.  After we assess this information, our qualified staff may recommend detoxification, behavior modification through therapeutic means, such as counseling, or short or long-term medications if the person is suffering from co-occurring mental health conditions.

Following this, clients will work closely with licensed professionals to develop a customized treatment plan to determine what your path to recovery will look like. We use a variety of evidence-based treatment modalities to treat methamphetamine addiction, which are provided by qualified professionals and aim to create a semantic and sensory experience in order to heal the whole person.

The most effective meth addiction treatment programs include medical detox and cognitive therapies which focus on trying to better understand the role of methamphetamine in a person’s life and helps the development of coping skills to avoid a return to use.
