Trauma and Addiction Treatment in Wisconsin

Trauma and substance use is very often a two-way street. In fact, according to the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA), 75% of women and men in addiction treatment report histories of abuse and trauma. Trauma increases the risk of developing an addiction to drugs and alcohol while misusing substances increases the likelihood of being traumatized by engaging in high-risk behavior. Since individuals who have a substance use problem have limited capacity to cope with stress and especially traumatic events, the cycle can have a devastating impact on individuals who suffer from both.

It makes perfect sense these individuals want to seek comfort any way they can. That comfort can be temporarily found by drinking alcohol or using drugs, especially stimulant-type drugs that increase the amount of dopamine in the brain, which creates intense feelings of euphoria, superior confidence and power, and overall joy. However, these feelings are temporary and the crash after misusing substances often leaves the person feeling worse than before.

Support for Trauma and Addiction - We’re Here for You!

If you are suffering from both trauma and addiction, you’ve come to the right place. WisHope Recovery offers a dual-diagnosis treatment program that is tailored for each person’s unique set of needs and circumstances.  Our licensed professionals use only the latest evidence-based treatment practices that have been approved by the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Service Administration (SAMHSA).

It’s been reported that individuals who suffer from trauma, the risk for early initiation of substance use increases two to four times and individuals with three or more traumatic childhood experiences have higher rates not just of alcohol and drug use, but also depression, domestic violence, sexually transmitted diseases, and heart disease. This is why WRC is dedicated to ensuring every individual who comes through our door receives support to heal the whole person – their mind, body, and their soul.  We take a holistic approach to all that we do in order to help those we serve to heal and live a more satisfactory life.

Our Depression and Addiction Treatment Program - What to Expect

WRC’s trauma and addiction treatment approach allows for clients to work closely with licensed professionals to develop a customized treatment plan to determine what their path to recovery will look like. We take into account a person’s past and current traumatic experiences, any mental health issues, their history of drug and/or alcohol use, their supportive systems, and their personal commitment to living a life in long-term recovery. Initially, participants will undergo a pre-screen to identify the severity of their addiction and depression to see which type of treatment will work best.

Typically, our treatment programs are offered on an inpatient level for people who struggle with substance use and at least one mental health condition or disorder. However, we do offer outpatient treatment, partial hospitalization, extended care programs, and more. Our Dual Diagnosis treatment is built on an integrated approach, meaning our programs combine the use of multiple treatment services in order to treat the whole person, so the mind, the body, and the soul. This includes:
